Halloween is a magical time for preschoolers as they get to imagine, laugh, and create. For teachers, it’s also a perfect way to build fine motor skills, teamwork, and joy in the classroom. Though predominantly a western festival, it is now being celebrated in a big way in India too. And why not? The festival involves a lot of fun and creative time for all kids.
If you, too, are planning to celebrate Halloween in your kindergarten, here are five Halloween craft ideas for preschools. These are simple, low-cost, and scalable - ideal for groups of twenty tiny hands and busy teachers.
1. Paper Plate Pumpkins Halloween Craft
One of the most popular Halloween activities for preschoolers, paper plate crafts are quick, affordable, and easy to manage in groups. All you need are basic materials such as paper plates, orange paint, and pre-cut green stems from craft paper.
Ask the kids to paint the plate orange to represent a pumpkin. Once the paint dries, ask them to glue on eyes and a mouth made from black paper onto the orange plate and the pumpkin is ready to amaze the kids!
You can ask the students to create different facial expressions - happy, silly, or spooky. Explain to them how shapes can change a pumpkin’s mood.
Display all the pumpkins on a classroom wall to give the kids a sense of pride.
Skills developed: fine motor, creativity, colour recognition.

2. Halloween Ghost Handprints
This fun activity requires four materials- white paint, black chart paper, googly eyes and black crayons.
You can buy googly eyes here:
Method: Paint your students’ palms white and have them press their hands onto a thick black chart paper to make ghost shapes. Once the prints dry, ask the students to add googly eyes and draw little smiles with black crayons to complete the funny ghost.

To make it more interactive, ask children to give their ghosts names or make up a short story about them. This sparks imagination while keeping the activity light and fun. You can line the paper ghosts up on a hallway board titled “Our Little Ghosts” to create an easy, high-impact display.
Skills developed: sensory play, coordination, shape recognition.
3. Mini Brooms for Halloween Witches and Wizards
This Halloween activity is so minimalist and fuss-free that it can be done using only left-over materials. All you need are pencils, wooden skewers, or paper straws for the broom handles, and brown craft paper, dried grass, or thin twigs for the broom bristles. Scissors and glue, of course, are essential for any craft activity.
The mini witch brooms would add a playful, magical touch to your classroom decorations. Give each child a pencil or wooden skewer for the broomstick and let them attach “bristles” made from twigs, brown paper strips, or straws.

Once finished, the brooms can be used for pretend play or displayed around the classroom as part of your Halloween setup. It’s an engaging way to help children explore creativity while feeling part of the festive fun.
Skills developed: creativity, fine motor skills, imaginative play
4. Paper Cup Halloween Bats
A bit of advance preparations for this craft will keep the entire activity smoother and faster.
You will need black paper cups, black craft paper, googly eyes, glue stick and scissors. If you don’t get black cups, paint plain cups black in advance. Also, you need to pre-cut paper wings for the bats from black paper and keep them handy.
Start by asking the kids to glue the googly eyes and the black paper wings to the paper cups. Once done, hang the bats with thread around the classroom for a fun “flying bat” effect.

Let children name their bats and share their stories with the class. It adds a storytelling element and makes the activity more memorable.
Skills developed: cutting, gluing, imagination
5. Halloween Mood with Pumpkin Seed Arts
You will need saved pumpkin seeds and acrylic paints of different colours for this Halloween craft. Give each child some seeds and let them paint them in different colours like orange, green, purple, and black. Allow the painted seeds to dry for a few minutes.
Next, give the children a sheet of thick paper or cardboard. They can draw simple Halloween shapes like pumpkins, ghosts, or bats and then glue the painted seeds inside the outlines to fill the shape, just like a mosaic.
Once dry, display the finished art in a “Halloween Gallery” corner of your classroom.
This craft is hands-on, colourful, and calming, while allowing kids to explore textures and patterns.
Skills developed: sensory play, creativity, texture exploration, hand-eye coordination.
